Early childhood education (voor- en vroegschoolse educatie, VVE)

Early childhood education is intended for pre-schoolers at risk of language and/or developmental delays. The goal is to better prepare pre-schoolers for primary school and ensure they can enter grade 3 without falling behind. The consultation office can issue a VVE indication.

If your child has a VVE indication, the municipality usually pays a (large) portion of the costs for pre-school education. However, you do often pay a parental contribution. The amount of the parental contribution varies by municipality, there are no national guidelines for this.

Will your child be going to childcare more or fewer hours? Then you may still be entitled to the childcare benefit for those hours. You must then fulfil the requirements for the childcare benefit . You can only apply for childcare benefit for the hours for which the municipality does not provide a subsidy. So, make sure to report the correct hourly rate and the correct number of hours to Toeslagen. Is this not clearly stated on your invoice or in your contract? Then check with your childcare provider.

More information about VVE is avaialable on the BOinK website.
